More UK Motorhome Stopovers
The move to set up motorhome overnight parking places in the UK seems to be gathering momentum.
Having just discovered the newly set up one at Loch Katrine in Scotland we have now learned about a another new one in Fife, Scotland at Lochore Meadows Country Park, another in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, and the Visitor Centre at Clovelly in Devon have confirmed to us that they also allow overnight stays!
We've included brief details below and hope to get additional information shortly. For the locations, maps, streetview and GPS details please see the individual entries on our Stopovers Listings page.
Lochore Meadows Country Park, Lochore Meadows, Lochore, Lochgelly, Fife, KY5 8BA
They are are now trialling motorhome overnight stays in the park, their FAQs say:
Can I just park up or do I need to pre-book? Please call us to check availability and reserve a spot – phone 01592 583343.
What is the charge for an overnight stay? £10 per night - buy 4 nights and get a 5th night free.
What camping facilities are available? We have facilities on site to replenish water supplies and empty chemical toilets.
What times do I need to be there by and vacate? Entry should be before 5pm and leave by 1pm.
Is it only motorhomes or are caravans welcome too? We’re currently trialling this with motor homes only although we may expand this in future years to other vehicle types.
Cleveland Way overflow car park, Helmsley, North Yorkshire
Ryedale district Council are running an experimental scheme for motorhomes to stay overnight, between the hours of 6.30pm and 9.00am, in the overflow car park at Cleveland Way in Helmsley. There is capacity for up to six motorhomes to park overnight.
The scheme started at the beginning of June and is due to last for the summer period.
Drivers must park their vehicles in the parking bays. Normal parking charges apply between the hours of 9.00am and 6.30pm. Large motorhomes can park in two adjacent bays, for which two pay and display tickets are required from 9am to 6:30pm, or parking in a coach / HGV bay, for which the appropriate charge must be paid during the daytime. Drivers will need to check the current rates for parking, it may be cheaper to pay for a coach/HGV bay than for 2 standard bays during the charging period.
This enhancement to the parking in Helmsley is a result of joint working with Ryedale District Council, Helmsley In Business, Helmsley Town Council, North Yorkshire County Council and North York Moors National Park. We are working together for the benefit of residents, businesses and visitors.
Angela Jones, Customer Services Lead for Ryedale District Council, said "We are looking forward to continue working together to make further changes and improvements. which will be announced shortly."
Clovelly Visitor Centre
The Visitor Centre tell us that there is no problem with motorhomes staying overnight on the large car park. Parking is included in the entry fee.
