A listing of officially sanctioned 'non-campsite' overnight parking stopovers for  campervans and motorhomes in the UK.
Includes motorhome service points offering CDP (toilet or 'black' waste disposal), and/or 'grey' waste water disposal and fresh water supply.
These are the closest thing the UK has to the motorhome 'aires' found in many countries in mainland Europe, however they are (mostly) not equivalent. They are not 'campsites' either, most of the car and lorry parks listed have no specific motorhome parking places and or facilities, they are simply the ones we understand to have no regulations prohibiting overnight sleeping, eating and cooking. A few do have specific motorhome parking facilities, this is mentioned in the listing.

What do we mean by 'officially sanctioned'?
The UK has legislation that determines what is legally required in order to allow caravans, campervans and motorhomes to be used for 'human habitation' on land. This is covered in some detail on our Stopover Setup page.

Unlike many online listings of UK Aires, or overnight parking for motorhomes and campervans we ONLY include places that comply with any of the following:

1) Has a caravan site licence and planning permission.
2) Is local authority owned or controlled and therefore exempted from the site licence requirement.
3) Has an Exemption Certificate issued by an approved organisation, which allows the stationing of up to 5 units without the need for a site licence or planning permission.
4) Has an agreement with the local authority that the site may operate outwith licensing and planning requirements.

Set up a Stopover
If you want to set up your own stopover, or add your own site to our listing, please see our information on setting up a motorhome stopover.
Pubs please note: We get many requests from pubs to be added to our listings, we cannot add them unless they have an Exemption Certificate (we suggest applying to MotorhomeFun for a Aire ExemptionExternal link if you want to provide overnight parking only, or a CL ExemptionExternal link if there is more space for camping-type activity)  or have a local authority licence or agreement to accept overnight stays by motorhomes.

Motor Caravanner's Club
The Motor Caravanner's Club CL network is open to non-members to use. Many are on farms but there are some at pubs and social clubs. Find their listings in the 'CL Sites' and 'Night Stops' areas of the Club website Ext Link

For news on UK Motorhome Stopovers see our Stopover News page.

GPS Co-ordinates
GPS coordinates are given as degrees and decimal minutes, and also as decimal degrees in brackets. If your sat nav needs a different format try this online converter: http://boulter.com/gps/ Ext Link

Coordinates have, as far as possible, been verified with Google Maps but note that the marker may not be at a routable location for some sat navs, this may result in the sat nav's 'best guess' for the destination being inaccurate. If possible please check your sat nav's destination against the Google Map link!

Have you stayed at any of our listed stopovers? Let us know what they were like! Have we got anything wrong? Please use our contact form. See our User Reports page for comments.
We encourage anyone using official motorhome stopovers to mention the facility when patronising local businesses, and if appropriate, write/email to the local council, thanking them for providing the service.

Prices, where given, are the latest ones reported to us, they may not be up to date.

Help Needed!
We are slowly updating the listed motorhome stopovers for 2021 but we need help checking! To help keep our listing up to date we'd really appreciate reports from anyone living locally or who has visited any stopover and can provide up to date details.
Please also send us information about new stopovers, they must be officially approved - photograph any signs or let us know the owners/local council details so that we can contact them. Please use our contact form

As with all content on UKMotorhomes.net this listing is copyright. Please don't copy it, or any part of it, for reproduction elsewhere.
As the information is liable to change it is better to provide a link back to this page, rather than simply copying it to other sites.
We are of course happy for individuals to print a copy of the page for their personal use.

Nightstop Scheme
Stopovers marked with the Nightstop Scheme logo are part of a joint scheme run by Practical Motorhome magazine and The Motor Caravanners' Club. They are officially licenced as 5 van sites, but are open to all (no club membership required), most have toilet disposal and fresh water available. The Nightstop locations are included with the kind permission of Practical Motorhome Magazine.

Motorhome Service Points
The locations marked with this sign have campervan and motorhome service facilities. This can be a fresh water supply and/or the disposal of black and/or grey waste water. The black water disposal facility may in some cases only be suitable for portable toilets. Electricity may also be available. See the description for details of the facilities available. The facilities may in some cases only be available to those staying at the site. In some cases there may not be a stopover provision at the same location.

Motorhome Parking SignDedicated Motorhome Parking Spaces
The locations marked with this sign have dedicated motorhome/campervan spaces or areas marked, or are reserved for motorhome parking only. There may be a separate charge for daytime or overnight parking, check the local signage for details of charges and restrictions. Overnight stays are authorised at all these.

Several local authority car parks are included in this listing. Some are officially authorised for motorhome and campervan overnight stays, some are understood to have no prohibition on sleeping in vehicles.
Users need to be aware that camping/leisure activities, such as putting awnings out, setting up chairs, tables etc, having barbecues, hanging out washing etc. MUST NOT be carried out on car parks. Neither must waste water be allowed to drain onto the ground or emptied down rainwater drains. Rubbish must be taken away with you unless there are dedicated bins.
Users disregarding the above risk having motorhome and campervan overnight stays prohibited.

On 1st March 2017 new byelaws were introduced to manage the environmental impact of camping on some of the busiest lochshores in the National Park. These byelaws will affect those wanting to stay on and around some lochshores during the summer season in the National Park, whether they are in a tent, motorhome, campervan or caravan.
From March to September staying overnight with motorhomes or campervans will only be allowed in specific locations by booking a campsite place or by obtaining a camping or motorhome permit. The cost of the permit will be £3 per motorhome/campervan per night, campsites are £7 per night. A motorhome permit will assign the permit holder to a specific location and numbered parking bay. The maximum stay in one permit area is three consecutive nights.

In around a third of a mile bear left into Fenni Fach Road (narrow road!), signed for The Promendade, the car park is on the left in around a quarter of a mile. It's around a five minute walk along the riverside footpath to the town.
About 200 yards further on, there is another smaller car park with access to a big grass parking area. Overnight parking is permitted here as well. There is a barrier, preventing access to the grass, which is closed between Sept and March and also in summer if the weather is bad.

Local authorities may change the regulations that apply to overnight parking, and users of any of the places listed should ascertain in advance, or on arrival, whether overnight parking, sleeping, or cooking is currently permitted. It is advisable to carefully study any signed car park regulations, there may, for example, be weight or size restrictions, or a requirement to park wholly within a marked space.

Whilst we endeavour, as far as possible, to keep this listing of places allowing overnight stays by motorhomes up to date, we will not be liable for any errors, omissions, or changes of local authority policy. If you do discover any errors or changes please let us know.

The inclusion of a location in this listing does not imply any recommendation by us and no locations have been inspected by us, users must judge for themselves the suitability, safety and security of any of the places listed.

Car parks and lorry parks are included in the listing, please be aware that these may not be located in the most attractive surroundings or be the most restful places to park overnight!

It should be noted that stopovers are, in general, NOT a substitute for campsites, they normally do not have the facilities or security of a campsite and are usually only intended for short stays, either as an overnight stop on a long journey, or as a base for a short visit to the local community and to make use of local facilities. They are for self-contained motorhomes only, and generally you should not put anything outside the vehicle - no chairs, tables, awning, barbecue etc. It should go without saying that waste water must NOT be dumped on the ground, or put down surface water drains. Many of these sites do not have disposal facilities, so rubbish, waste water and toilet disposal may need to be done at an alternative location.

Unofficial stopovers
There are several listings of unofficial places to stop overnight to be found on the internet. We no longer give direct links to any of the listings because the thoughtless actions of some motorhome users has meant that some places listed are no longer usable. A Google search for 'motorhome stopovers' or 'motorhome wild camping' will produce some results, but use them at your own risk.

Motorhome Daytime Parking
Many local authorities, tourist attractions and shopping facilities now include information about motorhome parking on their websites. As a part of planning a visit it is worthwhile investigating such online resources for details. Even if not included on the relevant website most have a contact facility and should respond to parking enquiries.
