Motorcaravanning
Handbook, by John Wickersham, is a substantial and comprehensive work. Its
main aim is to inform readers about the practical aspects of choosing, owning
and using a motorcaravan.
The book succeeds well in this aim, a list of the chapter headings will give
some idea of how comprehensive it is:
1. Freedom to Roam
2. Different types of motorcaravan
3. Base vehicles
4. Design and construction
5. Buying advice
6. Legal considerations
7. Ownership issues
8. Choosing places to stay
9. Accessories
|
10. Water and sanitation systems
11. Refrigerators
12. Mains electricity
13. The 12 volt system
14. Understanding gas
15. Cooking and heating
16. Servicing and MoT testing
17. Winter lay-up

We should say that the book is not a maintenance and repair handbook, although
useful advice is given in many of the chapters, that subject is fully covered
in another of John's books, The Motorcaravan Manual.
What this book does do is to provide a wealth of practical information, well
laid out and amply illustrated with colour photos on every page.
There is perhaps a slight over emphasis on the technical side of things, with
water, gas and electrical systems covered in greater depth than the average
owner would probably need. Practical advice on some things, such as satellite
TV for example, is sometimes covered in less detail.
Having said that, we are very impressed with the breadth of information in
the book and would thoroughly recommend it to the motorhome owner who wants
to know more about the technical and practical side of motorhome ownership
and use, and to prospective owners who want to be fully informed about the
choices available to them.
