Motorhome Stopover Listing

Scroll down the page for all the listings, or go directly to: England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland

A listing of officially sanctioned 'non-campsite' overnight parking stopovers for  campervans and motorhomes in the UK.
These are the closest thing the UK has to the motorhome 'aires' found in many countries in mainland Europe, however they are not equivalent. They are not 'campsites' either, most of the car and lorry parks listed have no specific motorhome parking places and or facilities, they are simply the ones we understand to have no regulations prohibiting overnight sleeping, eating and cooking. A few do have specific motorhome parking facilities, this is mentioned in the listing.

The Nightstop locations are included with the kind permission of Practical Motorhome Magazine.

Help Needed!
We've updated many of the listed motorhome stopovers for 2016 but there are still a few that either have not responded or we have not been able to contact. We'd really appreciate reports from anyone living locally or who has visited any stopover that has not been marked as checked or updated in 2016!

Please also send us information about new stopovers, they must be officially approved - photograph any signs or let us know the owners/local council details so that we can contact them. Please use our contact form

Set up a Stopover
If you want to set up your own stopover, or add your own site to our listing, please see our information on setting up a motorhome stopover.

Motor Caravanner's Club
The Motor Caravanner's Club CL network is open to non-members to use. Many are on farms but there are some at pubs and social clubs. Find their listings in the 'Non Members' area of the Club website Ext Link

For news on UK Motorhome Stopovers see our Stopover News page.

GPS Co-ordinates
GPS coordinates are given as degrees and decimal minutes, and also as decimal degrees in brackets. If your sat nav needs a different format try this online converter: http://boulter.com/gps/ Ext Link

Coordinates have been verified with Google Maps but note that the marker may not be at a routable location for some sat navs, this may result in the sat nav's 'best guess' for the destination being inaccurate. If possible please check your sat nav's destination against the Google Map link!

Have you stayed at any of our listed stopovers? Let us know what they were like - have we got anything wrong? Please use our contact form. See our User Reports page for comments.
We encourage anyone using official motorhome stopovers to mention the facility when patronising local businesses, and if appropriate, write/email to the local council, thanking them for providing the service.

Prices, where given, are the latest ones reported to us, they may not be up to date.

As with all content on UKMotorhomes.net this listing is copyright. Please don't copy it, or any part of it, for reproduction elsewhere.
As the information is liable to change it is better to provide a link back to this page, rather than simply copying it to other sites.
We are of course happy for individuals to print a copy of the page for their personal use.

Nightstop Scheme
Stopovers marked with the Nightstop Scheme logo are part of a joint scheme run by Practical Motorhome magazine and The Motor Caravanners' Club. They are officially licenced as 5 van sites, but are open to all (no club membership required), most have toilet disposal and fresh water available.

aire de service

Motorhome Service Points
The locations marked with this sign have campervan and motorhome service facilities. This can be a fresh water supply and/or the disposal of black and/or grey waste water. The black water disposal facility may in some cases only be suitable for portable toilets. Electricity may also be available. The facilities may in some cases only be available to those staying at the site. In some cases there may not be a stopover provision at the same location. See the description for details of the facilities available.

map - streetview - GPS: N53° 44.845' W3° 01.866' (N53.747423° W3.031101°)
Seafront car park at the rear of the swimming pool. Maximum stay 3 nights, no return within 5 days. A coil operated (£1) toilet disposal point is available at the toilets on North Promenade Car Park (500 metres to the north, on the other side of St Annes Pier). 20 minutes free parking is allowed to use this facility.
Overnight Fee: £5  (6pm to 10am)
Day Fee:  Up to 1 day - £8, 1-2 days - £15, 2-3 days £21.  9am to 10am the following day is counted as ‘1 day’. All day/multiday tickets expire at 10am on the final day. Normal parking fees apply if ‘day’ tickets are not purchased.

All fees to be paid at the pay and display machines located either on the top section (car park entrance to the front of the Swimming Pool) or on the lower section by the sea wall. These currently only accept coins though it is intended that cards will be accepted from about July 2016.
The overnight fee is per motorhome (10m max length).
Daytime charges are per bay occupied. 7 ‘oversized’ (8m long) bays are provided that are suitable for motorhomes. Standard bays are about 5m in length. For daytime parking motorhomes must be parked with all wheels within the bay markings and not protrude so far as to cause an obstruction to other vehicles travelling around the car park. If this condition cannot be met 2 bays must be used and paid for eg if a vehicle is parked over two standard bays the motorhome ‘day’ ticket would cover parking for the 1st bay and a normal parking ticket would be required for the 2nd bay.

No caravans or trailers. BBQs and open fires not allowed.

NOTES: The car park is used by cinema goers, there may be some disturbance with cars leaving after a late night screening.
Parking unavailable during the St Annes Triathlon (one Sunday each May. See www.visitlythamstannes.co.uk Ext Link for more details).

The inclusion of a location in this listing does not imply any recommendation by us and no locations have been inspected by us, users must judge for themselves the suitability, safety and security of any of the places listed.

Car parks and lorry parks are included in the listing, please be aware that these may not be located in the most attractive surroundings or be the most restful places to park overnight!

It should be noted that stopovers are, in general, NOT a substitute for campsites, they normally do not have the facilities or security of a campsite and are usually only intended for short stays, either as an overnight stop on a long journey, or as a base for a short visit to the local community and to make use of local facilities. They are for self-contained motorhomes only, and generally you should not put anything outside the vehicle - no chairs, tables, awning, barbecue etc. It should go without saying that waste water must NOT be dumped on the ground, or put down surface water drains. Many of these sites do not have disposal facilities, so rubbish, waste water and toilet disposal may need to be done at an alternative location.

Unofficial stopovers
There are several listings of unofficial places to stop overnight to be found on the internet. We no longer give direct links to any of the listings because the thoughtless actions of some motorhome users has meant that some places listed are no longer usable. A Google search for 'motorhome stopovers' or 'motorhome wild camping' will produce some results, but use them at your own risk.
