As many are turning their backs on expensive overseas holidays and instead choosing to holiday at home using a leisure vehicle, the multi-billion-pound industry gears up for its biggest indoor event of the year. Recent research and the number of exhibitors and visitors expected to attend the Motorhome & Caravan Show, highlight the underlying buoyancy of the sector.
Data held by UK Caravan and Camping Alliance (UKCCA) reveals that 39% of UK adults have taken a camping or caravanning holiday since 2016*, contributing almost £5bn GVA to the rural economy every year. Another recent study (by Safeguard Insurance)** has identified the UK as Europe’s number one hotspot for caravanners and motorhomers. Next month, from 15-20 October, the National Caravan Council’s (NCC) Motorhome & Caravan Show at the National Exhibition Centre will bring together nearly 400 exhibitors for the UK’s largest display of motorhomes, touring caravans, campervans, trailer tents, caravan holiday homes and lodges and accessories. As UK holidaymakers continue to favour domestic destinations, firms will reveal their new product line up for 2020 to almost 100,000 visitors.
John Lally of NCC Events, comments: “There is now more choice than ever for motorhome and caravan enthusiasts, both in terms of the breadth and depth of products and services on the market, and the range of budgets for which those cater. There are some really exciting developments in the pipeline for 2020 and despite the challenging economic context in which we are all operating, these will reinforce the progressive and dynamic nature of our sector at the moment. We’re bringing all of the big stories together at the Motorhome & Caravan Show next month – it’s set to be a very special event.”
Simon McGrath, head of communications at the Camping & Caravanning Club, comments: “Caravanning, motorhoming and camping are proving to be as popular as ever with more and more people discovering that they are a fantastic way to holiday, and make for a very enjoyable lifestyle too. Importantly, the industry continues to innovate by developing new products – once again, the Motorhome & Caravan Show will be the ideal place to see the latest trends and next year’s products.”
Harvey Alexander, director of marketing at the Caravan and Motorhome Club, adds: “Caravan and Motorhome Club members spend around £420m each year in the rural tourism economy in the UK – this is money spent on eating out, shopping and visitor attractions. So a caravan, motorhome or campervan holiday is not only great fun, it’s brilliant news for the British economy too.”
The Motorhome & Caravan Show is the UK’s biggest indoor consumer event of its type and will be a showcase for the leading UK and European leisure vehicle brands. Adria, Elddis and Swift are just some of the manufacturers set to reveal new models for 2020 to around 100,000 visitors to the NEC, Birmingham between 15-20 October.
Visitors to the show will also benefit from expert advice and top tips, free towing, motorhome manoeuvring and campervan test drives, exclusive offers and details of the latest holiday sites and destination trends. Free entry is available for children 15 and under and advance tickets are priced from £8.50***, available from www.mcshow.co.uk
