This is the long awaited guide to the French motorhome aires - written entirely
in English.
It lists 1100 true Aires de service' for motorhomes - service points on motorways
and within campsites are not included. Of these 1100, 600 have been inspected
by or on behalf of the authors and have full details included in the guide,
the remaining 500 are listed but with only basic information.
For the guide, France has been divided into 14 regions which are shown on
an overview map at the start of the book, each region section starts with
a map on which all the listed Aires are indicated and numbered. The Aires
are numbered in alphabetical order which makes it easy to look up the descriptions.
An example page is shown on the right. As can be seen, each description of
an inspected aire is accompanied by a colour photo and two sets of symbols,
one indicating the service facilities available, the other indicating other
features such as overnight parking, hard surface, level surface, etc. Usefully,
there is a symbol to indicate if access is difficult for large (over 7m) motorhomes.
Clear directions are given, plus a short description and indication of charges
if any, and opening times. GPS coordinates and postcodes are also shown.
This is a well thought out and comprehensive guide to the 600 inspected Aires,
the downside of course is the sparse detail on the ones that have yet to be
inspected.
We've checked the details and descriptions of aires that we know and are happy
to report that they are pretty accurate. The publishers include a 'Report
Form' at the back of the guide for readers to send in corrections and updates.
