| Buying a motorhome in Germany - a personal
view (or how to save £££!) Part 4 The dealer in Koln sent us more photos and some further information on the FFB 660. One slight problem - the interior photos were different from the ones on his website! Another email sorted the problem, the website had the wrong photos... The layout is fixed double and bathroom (separate shower) at the back, central kitchen, dinette opposite, no pull down bed at the front.
In the meantime there was an FFB 660 advertised in MMM, more money than one would pay in Germany, but then there would be a saving on the travel and conversion costs.... worth a look we thought. Well, it was very useful to see the 660 'in the flesh', this one had the pull down bed, which the one at the Koln dealer didn't have, but at the back there was an L-shaped seating area, which could be made up as a double - more versatile than a fixed double. It seemed an ideal layout for us, but it wasn't in very good condition and was priced at least £2000 more than we had seen them in Germany. It was right hand drive however. I emailed DVLA to request the documents we needed to register an imported vehicle, together with a useful booklet, details are at: DVLA Vehicle Import & Export and the appropriate department can be contacted by email at: vehpol.dvla@gtnet.gov.uk. 3/4/01 I now needed to check up on flights, check with the bank on the best way to transfer money to Germany, and contact our insurers to get cover arranged.
